The reason 401(k)s lag behind every other investing & management experience is due to one issue: recordkeeping is holding them back.

‍While the industry views 401(k) recordkeeping as its own siloed version of tracking financial transactions, we do not. An advisor should be able to manage 401(k) assets alongside assets held in every other client account. And participants should be viewed as investors, able to view their wealth holistically.

We set out to build a recordkeeper that treats an asset as simply an asset. A user as simply a user. An account as simply an account.

ARNIE was built entirely in-house by a small, dedicated team in one office in San Francisco. Eliza and Izabel Arnold co-founded the company (as sisters) and quickly brought on Nolan Lalor to lead engineering.

Eliza’s award-winning career as a creative director for blue-chip companies like P&G, Hasbro, Volvo, Walgreens, YouTube, UN Women, and Eli Lilly, brought a unique skill set to the team. Her talent for simplifying complex ideas and removing barriers for individuals allowed us to craft an intuitive and accessible experience for all users.

Izabel’s work managing $3.5 billion for ultra-high-net-worth clients exposed the gap between what investors expect and what traditional retirement systems deliver. Her deep expertise in ERISA, tax law, and system design allowed her to close that gap—architecting a platform built for real-time processing, regulatory integrity, and full customization without legacy constraints.

Nolan has over a decade of experience leading teams and working in scalable systems and enterprise financial software, including the buildout of Bank of America’s emerging markets platform. At Arnie, he engineered every layer of the platform— the backend recordkeeping engine, complete front-end experience, internal terminal services, and all external integrations.
